NDP wants a Junk Food Ad Ban

Yesterday(April 6 2008) there was word that the NDP are really insisting that there should be a ban on Junk food advertising to all children under the age of 13.
I don't really know too much about the stats or anything, but I think this is a little extreme and probably won't go far. There are now advertisements for Pharmaceuticals on Canadian television, which the conservatives instituted a couple years ago. So I doubt that the NDP will be able to get this through, especially with the pressure from the large multinationals.

I think they should ban pharmaceutical advertisements, they're the more harmful of the two. There's nothing wrong with junk food, so long as people have some self control. Honestly I think we should be making efforts to educate people about the consequences of over-indulgence, rather than this poor attempt at blinding them. People will always like chocolate and other sweets. The key lay in teaching people to use their brains, then and only then will the obesity problem (along with pretty much every problem in modern society) be solved.
