What do you think will become of the NATO summit in Bucharest? Will anything really happed?
I know Harper's main item is to get more troops from other countries dedicated to helping in the Kandahar province in Afghanistan or at least Afghanistan in general. Do you think that will happen?
I think it will more or less happen, either by a country helping directly in Kandahar or helping elsewhere to free up another country, such as the US, to help out in Kandahar with the Canadians.

I imagine they'll provide at least the bare-minimum. Though I have doubts Harper would pull out regardless, I doubt they want to take the risk.

They want to bring the Ukraine in, along with some one else... Belarus maybe? I'm not entirely sure.

Russia is obviously opposed to it, and have threatened to aim missiles at them if they join. It's likely empty threats, at least to that degree. I doubt they want to start a nuclear war any time soon. More likely they'll use oil as a weapon.

Georgia.

A Ukrainian friend vented to me for hours about this today.

It does give portent of some kind of post-Cold War East-West schism, although I am sure that is not exactly your friend's opposition to it.
