This a video from Ellen (my mother found it :p) about a horrible hate crime that happened in a school in the US where a student murdered a classmate because he was gay.
It is very sad to see that this is still happening to date, hasn't the world, especially the US, smartened up the slightest bit. It's great that Ellen is speaking out about it as she herself is gay.

It's in our nature to distrust anyone and anything different than us.
We tend to work against those whom we distrust, nay?
I don't have quicktime on this computer, but does that video describe how the victim harassed the shooter and tried to turn him gay?

You are so pessimistic!!
Though many people are descriminatory, I don't think it's beyond human beings to just accept each other, and live in harmony.
It certainly won't happen tomorrow, but it's not impossible.

I didn't say it was impossible. Humans are however selfish and short-sighted by nature as well. Accepting each other would require effort, which is more than the vast majority are willing to do for change.
It won't happen today, tomorrow, or any day, unless there is a drastic and sudden change in societies globally. However when governments, with the support of the media and corporations are doing their best to prevent that, I'd say the odds are low.
If you want to live in harmony, you're going to have to do something about it; We're all going to have to do something about it.
PS: I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist; And you are overly optimistic.

The dream of having all of humanity in arms, I daresay, is overly-idealistic. We would have to institute a eugenics program to rid ourselves of those who do not share the vision and such temperaments that would accompany the ambition for such a thing. It is in human nature to be distrustful, hateful, and wary of the "other"; and while this applies not to all of humanity, they are common enough traits. Pragmatically, it disrupts any vision of universal acceptance.
