A city councilman in Los Angeles, who was formerly a cop, has written up a proposal on a law against paparazzi. The law would provide stars a certain amount of personal space in which not to be hassled by the picture takers in public places. CNN had a debate between the councilman and the head of hollywood.tv. Basically the paparazzi said that as long as magazines pay millions for the photos that they want, people will ignore the law anyway, so why have one? The councilman didn't seem moved. His fear was one of public safety. That someone could get hurt or killed because of the paparazzi's antics. He also said how it was a shame that they hassled Dennis Quaid when his kids were made ill and that people should have some right to privacy.

I agree with this. I think paparazzi should only be able to get within so many feet with the intent to hassle. There is no reason with zoom cameras that you can't get a decent picture from a little ways away. Because really this is getting out of hand. Not just with Britney, but a lot of stars. What do you think?

"intent to hassle" that sounds like a pretty shaky term. I suppose if public safety is an issue this could be beneficial, but not until we get the Don't Piss Off Alec Baldwin Law, banning his kids from bothering him at home.

Well I think the reason that phrase has come up is because it's not just about photos. It's about not allowing stars to live their lives in some degree of peace. For instance, there is a video floating around where the paparazzi made one star's McDonald's drive thru a living hell just trying to get a burger. That should not be allowed. It's one thing to give your opinion of someone, it's another to interfere in their lives. Not sure what other definition covers it exactly.

Does this not strike a nerve with anyone else?

The fact that our society is so in love with celebrities, that we pay more attention to stories about them than any real issues, is quite frightening is it not? Our society has become increasingly idiotic and ignorant of late, and this is not helping matters.
