It appears Iran have launched their first rocket into space.

to quote the article: "Some Western experts have suggested Iran's space program could be a cover to develop its ballistic missiles, at a time when the U.S. and others are accusing Tehran of trying to develop nuclear weapons."
One thing I've noticed is that "some western experts" always appear to have something to say about Iran, usually regarding their supposed nuclear ambitions, yet they never seem willing to be named.

The only problem I have with Iran going to space is that their country needs to sort out their priorities, much like most countries.
The funny thing is, I was watching CBC news last night, and a survey they did says that 50-some% of Canadians think that the US the biggest negative influence in the world, greater than China, Iraq and Iran put together and I believe that too. I have less of a problem of Iran going to space than the US.

They will likely be using some of the satellites to assist in defense. In the event of any conflict, they will need to use them to strike precisely and rapidly at potential targets. They will likely be shot down, but the damage they will help to inflict if used quickly will be invaluable to their war effort. They are a worthwhile investment for any nation, especially one with a high likelyhood of being attacked. They're also good for PR, national pride, etc.
The US are indeed a negative influence, but they are a tool of sorts, not really the ones behind it (the government, I mean). They are pawns, as many others are. The trouble with this game of chess is that its king is well-hidden, and the opponent is only a few moves from checkmate.

A florid metaphor. Yet as Borghunter stated, these nations (including the U.S.!) really do need to set straight their priorities or face the inevitable repercussions.

I am not sure what to think on this subject. It seems like the belief of this just being a "cover" is not true though.

While I'm not fond of Iran (Or any other overly religious government, the US likely falling into that category), I'm fairly certain the threat from them is greatly exaggerated.

I feel as the United States we have a duty to protect the world. If we dont intervene in foreighn affairs then we get blasted by others. If we do intervene and things dont work they way we wanted them to, then we are blasted also.

hideip: you are only blasted when you intervene in places that you are not meant to intervene (ie. Iraq...). There is no need to intervene in Iran at the time being, the only reason the US wants to intervene is for the huge amount of oil in that area, the US bureaucracy doesn't care about anything else.

Don't work the way we want them to? Why, boy, every intervention in our glorious history has been an astronomical success! Sarcasm aside, there has seldom been a botched foreign intervention in American history. There have only been botched public fronts.
(And a bothersome intrusion of media. I daresay we would be better off without such malicious entities.)
