Just out of pure curiousity, what is your religion?

I am a Protestant Christian. That's way to broad, so, I am a Liberal Protestant Christian who goes to a church within the United Church of Canada (http://www.unitedchurch.ca)

Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (www.venganza.org/)

Jewish, but only in a cultural fashion. I've renounced the spiritual side.
I'd like to reconnoitre the realm of Unitarian Universalists. It's mainly a humanist, completely open church which doesn't celebrate one religion or praise a deity (although some of its members do.)

Organized religions are among the most sinful groups known to man.

I am from India and I am a Hindu.
My religion is called Hinduism. But actually Hinduism is only a way of leading life.
It is not exactly a religion as there are no missionaries in Hinduism.

Seems like we have a very diverse crowd here :)
Didn't actually know someone was a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster

You need not missionaries to be a religion.

I believe there is order to the universe and that it was created by someone or something. I believe that you should treat your fellow man with respect and try to do good on this earth. I believe you should be honest and have integrity. What I don't believe is in organized religion that uses these concepts to scare people, fight or raise money for their causes. Not sure what that makes me.

I don't know, but what it doesn't make you, is a fool, at least.

I think "humanist" would be the term, but that's very broad and no one humanist's beliefs are the same, because that is the nature of humanism. It isn't a religion, ergo no strict standard to adhere to.

Then I'd go out on a limb and say you're not Catholic at all, unless you follow the teachings of your faith.

my religion is Islam. I am a Sunni, but the sect in Islam is an embarrassment and i'd much rather prefer to be known as a Muslim.

Well then, you would be the first here. I bid you welcome.

I'm not overly fond of your religion, but I'll not hold it against you. It's mainly the leaders of your faith that have earned my contempt, as well as those who follow it blindly. The same applies to any religion though, as I'm not overmuch fond of any of them.

Don't mistake me for an atheist, though ;)

It seems the Quran is even more misinterpreted than the Bible (if possible) leading to violent, racist, and sexist acts by followers of Islam that earn the contempt of others. Ironically, the texts of Islam teach peace.

One of the troubles arising from the Scripture of any religion is the fact that very few people read, and fewer still can comprehend what they're reading. I'll wager most followers of any religion have not read their holy book, and fewer still indeed could grasp what it means. This is the great folly of religion, even if the source of it were not originally corrupt (which I'll not argue for one way or another in this case). People follow their faith blindly, dismissing common sense, and their own conscience. It's also a great way to suppress thought.

i am not noble enough of a person to actually represent an entire mass of people. what i can say though is that i hear where you are coming from. frustrating to realize that people think like u do and for me to change that fact is very difficult. meaning it's good that you think like the way u do, cuz it's an incentive to make the effort of fixing things, but at the same time, you are left helpless

The only way to fix things is to make people think, using all of their intelligence. When people learn how to properly use their brains, religion will not have the corrupting effect it has had throughout history, people will not be so easily lied to. The problems will fix themselves. The trouble is bringing about such a change in an apathetic, lazy, and ignorant populace.

i couldn't have agreed more with you here. education is important, not just schooling, but an education about life in general.

I find myself liking this Jesus guy more and more all the time, but as my fondness for him grows so does my abhorrence for the clergy and the ecclesiastical institution.

Please don't fall for the Jesus trap. They exaggerate him WAY too much, if you read the Bible carefully, he was just a simple carpenter guy that spoke out against issues.

And then was subsequently used by the ruling class to extend its power over the people.

Which is exactly why I like him. :D
He was revolutionary in his ideas, and has been horribly miscast by the Church.
